SERIALS AT THE FLEA THEATER

Since the summer of 2018 we’ve been members of the Serials Writers Room at The Flea Theater.

The Serials program is a serialized playwriting competition, in which the audience watches 10-minute episodes of 5 different plays and votes back their favorite three to see the next installment the following week. Read more about some of our Serials pieces below!

Killed a Man 1.JPG

“I KILLED A MAN”

I Killed A Man focuses on Corinne, a young woman who comes home covered in blood and has to figure out the best way to clean herself up before she meets her friend Mary and explains why her boyfriend, Jason, won't be joining them for the concert tonight. Nothing happened. Why do you ask? Corinne's fine. Please stop asking questions. I Killed a Man is a play that invites the audience to be complicit in at least one murder, and asks: what happens if you never get caught?

“VANNA WHITE AND PAT SAJAK’S HANDS BRUSH AGAINST EACH OTHER AND THEY REALIZE THEY’VE BEEN IN LOVE THIS WHOLE TIME”

They’ve been working together for 35 years. They’ve spent more time together than with their own families. They’re friends, they’re partners, and tonight, for the very first time ever, they realize they could be... something more. Vanna White and Pat Sajak’s Hands Brush Against Each Other and They Realize They’ve Been in Love this Whole Time is a highly-fictionalized musical rom-com about the unique ways that love can grow between two people most of America assumed had already boned. Voted back three times.

“WHY SHOULDN’T I EAT YOU RIGHT NOW?”

Why Shouldn't I Eat You Right Now is about really talented mice performers who perform at clubs and bars for snakes. One mouse comedian is really popular, he thinks he does right by other mice by keeping the snakes entertained. He thinks less mice are eaten because of it. The other mice kinda think snakes will always be snakes and it’s harmful to every mouse’s sense of personhood for him to be dancing while snakes eat other mice. If you’ve ever performed on stage and thought: “Wait, who’s in the audience? Why are they laughing at that?” I think you’ll be into this one.
